Dayspring Baptist Church
January 26, 2010

I spent over eight hours at clinic Monday. I have developed a shingles infection because of my compromised immune system. Because of this, I could only take a partial treatment, and was given two new (and expensive) prescriptions to take at home. The worst part of it is I cannot be around my grandchildren until I am over the infectious stage. We have scheduled CT scans March 2 to evaluate the success of getting rid of the lymphoma.

It was a good day at clinic. I enjoyed visiting with people from two different churches I served as pastor in the past. Good people, too. I was surprised to see a man who went to school with my son. He was in clinic with his dad, a former neighbor. I listened to a man talk about his mother who has only a few months to live. He just needed someone to listen to how tough it is knowing you will be losing your mother. I visited with a man just diagnosed with three different cancers in three different locations. Sometimes the nurses don't know where to find me! I sat four hours beside a man who has been given three years to live. We talked a lot about the things that count. And, once again I tried to encourage the doctor and his staff who seemed to be having a difficult day. I got to come home to a loving and caring family, knowing many friends also are praying for me.

I get to work in an essential mission work, pastor a great congregation and witness in my community. It seems the weather is going to delay the installation of our church sign until next week. We had a first time visitor in Sunday morning worship. Last Saturday we enjoyed a men’s breakfast at a local restaurant.

The Lord is worthy to be praised.

My treatment Monday went smoothly. The doctor remains pleased with my response to treatment. As usual I was unable to sleep the night after treatment and felt bad as a side effect. Those symptoms have gone away and I am feeling okay. At Dayspring we are working on installing a sign. It should be up next week. We are thankful for those who contributed the funds for this project. We expect the total cost, including site work, to be about $5,000.00. Last Sunday we had four first time visitors in the morning service. The Lord is good.

I have felt better in the last couple of weeks; however, I still seem to be wrestling with a bear, and look forward to getting past weekly treatments. God can make good out of bad. Because I have been unable to rake the leaves from my yard - and there are a lot of them - I paid someone to do it. I found that he was willing to talk about spiritual matters, and seemed to open himself to the Lord. He is in his mid forties. He confessed to being out of fellowship with God for many years, living a worldly life. He stated he wanted to get right with God. This was on a Saturday, and he was at
worship service the following morning. He came forward during the invitation to ask for prayer. He will have a battle giving up the life he is in. Would you pray for Tony? Thanks.
